Integration of GDB patch related to TI's Dwarf extensions

Asked by Tamas Kleiber

Dear Devs,

I would like to ask whether it would be possible to integrate this patch: https://sourceware.org/bugzilla/show_bug.cgi?id=16822 into the ARM Embedded Processors tool specific distribution?

We are migrating from TI's CGT CCS compiler to GCC ARM Embedded and would like to use GDB with TI compiled elf executables as well. Most unfortunately GDB crashes as soon as it tries to load debug symbols from the TI generated executables. Apparently TI's compiler specifies Dwarf extensions that GDB misinterprets leading to a segmentation fault.

A patch exists to overcome the issue: https://sourceware.org/bugzilla/show_bug.cgi?id=16822 , but it is not integrated to mainstream GCC (yet?).

Would it be possible to take up this patch and apply it to the GCC ARM Embedded compiler's GDB code base?

It would be a great help to us.

Best regards,
 Tamas

Hi Tamas,

Our policy for update release with regards to patches is to only include those that were accepted in trunk and are bug fixes. This patch qualifies for the second criteria but not the first. Besides, if I understand the last message from Cody correctly, the patch does seem to address the core of the issue.

I would thus suggest you to ping the bug report to ask for any progress.

Best regards.
