Hi Ralf,

Master node by default is used as log storage node from the whole OpenStack cluster.

You may shut down master node during normal operations, but please check the following places first and make necessary corrections to OpenStack settings before master node shutdown:

1.
Check if logs stored on the OpenStack nodes locally or make appropriate configuration settings.

2.
Disable Nailgun Agent run every minute by cron. It only reports the node status to the master node and would unnecessary produce errors every minute.

After that you may switch off master node.

Kind regards,
Miroslav
