(2 parter) Storing the media of feeds for offline consumption. And for partial-feeds, amending FullTextRSS to include media or to store the HTML of feeds WITH media offline!

Asked by PhiberOpticks

TO begin, I love the FullTextRSS script. Since the feeds of some of my reading material, such as GQ and NYTimes are partial, this is a good addition to have so I can better consolidate my what I read. Now, on to the issue: I, originally, wanted a script that not only pulled the full text from a partial feed. But also pulled relevant media from the article as well. But judging from previous questions on the matter, that isn't an easy task.

Because I subscribe to a lot of sources with relevant media attached to them and I travel so often, having an offline solution for partial feeds whose HTML sources have media is a necessity. Another issue is that when I am at university, the network there often shuts me out randomly to curb bandwidth usage. I need an offline solution that works when my internet doesn't. I've spent a great deal of time searching for a solution elsewhere. But it seems that this isn't a prevalent concern.

This is a problem for almost all my feeds, both full-text and partial-text. So I need a solution or solutions to remedy the lack of media in my feeds when offline and to find a way to load the media of partial feeds along with the full text from the parent HTML source.

I have a couple of suggestions of my own to amend this:

- Since the FullTextRSS script locates the body of text that the partial-feed comes from, why not add a piece of code that identifies and loads the media within the same div or table that the article is contained? It seems like this isn't too far-fetched of a solution.

- If that doesn't work, then I want to know if there's a script that would allow NetNewsWire to have an option to store the HTML of specified feeds offline. There is already the option under the "HTML archive" when you select "View Info" that allows you to archive a feed into an HTML format and store it onto the disk. I don't see the difficulty in adding an option for storing the content of the parent HTML source offline.

Thanks for the suggestions.

My own interest with the project is mainly in the text so I'm not spending a lot of time on images and other media files right now.

However, this is a free software project, so anyone can make changes and share them. There have been a few people interested in the media files associated with the text content so maybe someone will do that work.

Can you help with this problem?
