How can I install firefox-2 in Jaunty?

Asked by komputes

Firefox 3 is becoming slow and lagged. I also have extensions that have not been converted properly to Firefox 3 (example: SnapLinks). How can I possibly install firefox-2 (system-wide or user-specific) in Jaunty.

I get the following error when trying to install via apt-get:
Reading package lists... Done
Building dependency tree
Reading state information... Done
Package firefox-2 is not available, but is referred to by another package.
This may mean that the package is missing, has been obsoleted, or
is only available from another source
E: Package firefox-2 has no installation candidate

I'm not 100% sure, but you could install 3.5 in Ubuntu using this PPA (https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-mozilla-security/+archive/ppa) 3.5 is supposed to be much quicker, and I am going to try it out myself now....

OK. I can now confirm that Shiretoko is much faster and smoother (on a terribly old computer). The freezing and slowness of Firefox 3.0 is missing... I would recommend upgrading to 3.5.

Can you help with this problem?
