Firebird DBS How to load on Ubuntu HELP...

I've tried and tried to load Firebird, Apache2, and PHP5 for development purposes on my laptop which is running Ubuntu Jaunty Desktop. I've now loaded my system six times in three days due to it not working. Localhost won't connect, cannot created a new database even when using the system Superuser...any help is greatly appreciated as I've not found any answers anywhere else.
