OS X 10.8 dmg?

Hi Fenics project, Do you have plans for creating a binary for OS X 10.8 in the near future?

We are upgrading our VMware hosts today and this will hopefully allow us to create virtual machines with OS X 10.8. I will then start working on a binary package for OS X 10.8.

Hi David,

Sorry for the delay. I haven't got OS X 10.8 working in VMware yet, so I still don't have a Mac with OS X 10.8 to work with. However, this weekend I tested the OS X 10.7 dmg on my friend's Mac with OS X 10.8 and I was able to get it to work with some minor adjustments. This was actually the OS X 10.7 dmg for the 1.1.0 release that I am working on, not the dmg for the 1.0.0 release that is available from the website. If you are interested, I can give you the details for how you can make this work on OS X 10.8, or you can wait until the dmg for 1.1.0 are officially released. I expect this to happen within the next few days.

Ok thanks a lot, I can wait a few days no problem. I have fenics running on an ubuntu machine in the meantime.

I'm working with David and if there's anything we can do to help unblock the release of FEniCS on Mountain Lion please let us know. We'd be happy to send you along a fully licensed version of the latest VMWare and/or Mountain Lion if either of those are standing in your way.

Hi Rebecca,

The thing is that I would like to add a virtual machine with Mountain
Lion to our existing VMware hosts. I have managed to install Mountain
Lion in a virtual machine, but it just hangs on boot. If I can't
figure it out, I guess we will just have to buy another Mac mini or
something like that. But thanks for your kind offer anyway.

On the other hand, it seems to me that Lion and Mountain Lion are
pretty similar and I believe that the OS X 10.7 dmg should work just
as well on OS X 10.8. If anyone wants to try it out, I have made an
experimental package for the FEniCS 1.1.0 release available here:

http://fenicsproject.org/pub/software/fenics/fenics-1.1.0-osx10.7.dmg

Let me know how it works if you decide to try it out (either on Lion
or Mountain Lion). Note that this is not final release.
