Attaching a 1 watt Laser to cut material

Asked by Jerin George Mathew

Hi
We are currently looking at attaching a LASER (1 watt) to the 3D printer. The purpose of this LASER is to cut shapes out of a paper type material. We already hooked up the LASER in place of a 1 syringe tool and ran 1 to 3 layers of the 3D shape. We noticed that all the layers were not superimposing on each other, but rather following a slightly deviant path. Is there some way the application can be made to support this application ?

First off, very cool idea, could you post some specs about it on the Fab@Home blog? PM me to get listed as a blogger. Additionally this would be a questions better suited for the Fab@Home forums.

Im not sure that I understand your problem. The Model 1 software one does one layer of outline and then raster fills. FabStudio version 1, which is in beta release atm can cut just the perimeter of the object.

Can you help with this problem?
