howto start contributing?

I have never written any real software. but I have been studying computer science for the last three years and been doing all kind of exercises in c and c++. and I have been studying python on myself for a while now.

I decided it's about time. I want to contribute to this great project.

how and where do I start?

Pick something you want to work on and just dive in. Our bugs sections has plenty of bugs and requests if you're stuck for an idea. If you need help learning the Exaile codebase, or just want to discuss an idea (or are just bored :P), join our irc channel (#exaile on freenode), that's where essentially all the regular devs and contributors hang out, so there's usually someone who can help.
