energy consumption

Asked by LIUYI

Hello, esys-particle developers and users!

I'm using the RotFriction model with bound between particles. I want to accumulate the energy consumed by bond breakage, contact damping, and sliding friction. Is there any way ( like fieldsaver) to get these quantities?

Best regards!
Shen

Hi Shen,

the energy consumed (dissipated) by sliding friction can be obtained via a field saver (field name would be "dissipated_energy"). For bond breakage and contact damping (I assume you mean dashpot interactions?) this is currently not directly available.

Hi Steffen

I guess that the energy consumed by bond breakage is the strain energy before it break.

Is the guess right?

Hi Shen,

> the energy consumed by bond breakage is the strain energy before it break.
This is correct. The strain energy from the broken bond just "disappears" from the model.
