creep contact model

Asked by DuMin

Q1: Is there any contact model can be used to simulate creep test of concrete or soil in esys?
Q2: if there were a creep contact model, both solid materitals and granular matertals are described by the same model?? if no,what is the differece between solid materitals creep model and granular materitals creep model?

Hi DuMin,

w.r.t. Q1: I'm not really sure what the simulation of a creep test on concrete or soil would entail, but the currently implemented interacions are probably not sufficient, at least not if you want quantitatively correct creep behaviour.
So far the only way to get a velocity dependent ductile behaviour would be by using the Dashpot interactions which give you a velocity dependent drag force between particles. When combined with an elastic interaction this essentially implements a Voigt-Kelvin material at the particle scale (which probably isn't what you'd want). However, _macroscopically_ you get something which resembles a Bingham material (i.e. viscosity+yield stress). For details see
