How to submit patches?

Asked by Joran Jessurun

What is the best way to submit patches for bug fixes or new features? I now did it with filing a bug and pusing a branch with a bugfix. But I think I could also submit a bug with an patch file connected to it.

Hi Joran,

Thanks for this question. When reporting bugs and submitting patches, the esys-p-dev team is happy for contributors to use either of the following methods:

1) Submit a bug report, branch the trunk and apply the bugfix. After that, go to the new branch's summary page and click the "Propose for merging" link, or

2) Submit a bug report with a patch file attached containing the bugfix. Make sure to obtain the latest version of the trunk before applying the bugfix to generate the patch file

I personally prefer the first option as it allows the dev team to utilise tools provided by launchpad to review the changes and apply the bugfix. The second option requires somewhat more intervention from the dev team.

Once again thanks for contributing to the development of ESyS-Particle. It is very much appreciated.

Cheers,

Dion
