Same charge for electrostatic particles

Asked by Ldo

Hello,

I would like to know if it's possible to simulate the density of electrostatic particles. Example, I put 1000 particules with the same electrostatic charge +1 in a "circle" (2D). Particules are free to move. After a little time all particles must stop to move and I would like to know the density of particules function of the raidus. Is it possible with ESys ?

Hi Ldo,

ESyS-P currently does not provide support for electrostatic or electrodynamic simulations although adding the necessary features would not be terribly difficult to implement. The main technical issue is that electrostatic interactions are long-range, whereas the DEM assumes short-range, nearest-neighbour interactions. Whilst this issue can be overcome in ESyS-P, computational performance will be impaired and only single-worker simulations will be practical. Given that, you may be better served to write your own code for this particular problem.

I hope this helps.

Cheers,

Dion
