Radius of the cylindrical elastic beam in BrittleBeamPrms

Asked by Viktoria

Hello ESyS users!

I have a question regarding figure 11 of the ESyS-Particle Tutorial (v2.1).
The figure shows the forces and moments between particles bonded via rotational elastic-brittle bonds.
The text says the radius of the beam connecting two particles is the mean of the radii of the bonded particles, which somehow also matches the code in RotBondedInteraction.cpp.
However, the picture shows the radius of the beam to be much smaller than the mean of the two particles or even the minimum of both particle radii.
Is there something I misunderstood or is the picture only illustrating the forces and moments, but not the kind of bond connecting the particles?

Best regards,
Viktoria

Hi Viktoria,

The picture is only for illustrative purposes, showing the various deformational modes incorporated into the mathematics for rotational bonded interactions.

Cheers,

Dion
