installing escript on Windows

Asked by Taasnim Ahmed Himika on 2021-04-13

We tried to install esys-escript using anaconda on my windows 10 laptop. This is the command we ran on anaconda:
conda install esys-escript -c conda-forge

However when we try to run escript using run-escript darcy.py this is the error message we get using command prompt or anaconda:

run-escript darcy.py
'run-escript' is not recognized as an internal or external command,
operable program or batch file.

Hi Taasnim,

If the file darcy.py is located in your current folder you should be able to run it using:

python darcy.py

The file run-escript is used in the Linux version of escript.

Hi Taasnim,

Did you install escript in the same conda environment as the one in which you are running darcy.py?

Yes, we installed escript in anaconda and tried to run python darcy.py but we still got the same error message. Here is the error message:

C:\Users\thimika\OneDrive - Swinburne University\Desktop\escript_examples\examples\usersguide>python darcy.py
Traceback (most recent call last):

Hi Taasnim,

I am having a little trouble replicating your bug. Could you please try to reinstall escript using the command:

conda install esys-escript -c conda-forge

And then run python and, within the python shell, try running the command:

from esys.escript import *
