Building Esys-escript in Ubuntu 16 (Xenial)

Dear Group,
I am a sys-admin who was asked to install esys-escript for one of our reasearchers.
Our system has Ubuntu 16. and there does not seem to be any scon files for this version in scons/templates
I tried a template for an earlier version of OS, but compilation broke with a netcdf header not found.
Is it possible to build this package for this version of OS? Are there any packages or containers that would contain a prebuilt version?

Hi Simon,

Escript is in the official Ubuntu repositories since Yakkety: https://packages.ubuntu.com/yakkety/python-escript

While there is no scons file for Xenial it is known to build there. Please have a look in the install guide about the required dependencies and install the packages accordingly. In your specific case you may just need to install the
libnetcdf-dev and libnetcdf-cxx-legacy-dev packages and/or check the install paths and update the scons script if required.
