Client with the same name in LTSP Environment

Asked by il Davo

HI,
I have an Edubuntu Server 12.04LTS. I'm testing epeptes with a couple of thin clients.
The epoptes console detect the two clients but they have the same name, say ltsp20 with different usernames between parenthesis.
I tried to assign different alieses but when I assign it to the second client, the first one suddently change his alias to match the one on the second client. Of course the aliases were different :)
When the thin clients boot, I can see different hostname in the LDM login screen, say ltsp20 and ltsp22 (from the DHCP I see).
Can you give me an hint?
Thanks!

That's probably because you haven't installed epoptes-client in the LTSP chroot,
and at the same time your ltsp-client version is a bit old, it doesn't expose the "LTSP_CLIENT_MAC" variable.

So while it's a valid bug, it can be easily fixed by following the installation instructions:

You are perfectly right. I tell the truth, I read the installation documents but it was almost working and I thought it was already installed. My bad! Thanks for the help!
