Thanks for the question. I don't believe that there is any plan to add support for remote controls right now. It would involve adding in a new library called pylirc and we just don't have anyone working on that.

You could check out the work Moovida did with lirc, I think it's a bit broken but there was some support for it, might be possible to reuse it?
