Display freezes external monitor

Asked by John Costanzo

Computer: Surfacebook
OS: ElementaryOS Loki

When I boot into my OS the keyboard and trackpad does not work. So searching the internet I found a custom kernel that would help me with this issue. https://launchpad.net/~tigerite So I installed it, when I rebooted the keyboard and mouse work but now when I connect an external monitor the display gets huge and it freezes to where I cannot move the mouse or use the keyboard. Not even a USB mouse and keyboard work either and I have to hard shutdown the machine.

So I decided to reinstall the whole OS and do the following steps but still come up with the same results

1. sudo apt-get update && sudo apt-get upgrade
2. sudo add-apt-repository ppa:tigerite/kernel
3. sudo apt-get update && sudo apt full-upgrade
4. Reboot machine
5. sudo apt install linux-surface
6. Reboot the machine

At this point I run in the the problem. Here is the next steps I took

1. sudo add-apt-repository ppa:oibaf/graphics-drivers
2. sudo apt update && sudo apt full-upgrade
3. Reboot

Still get the same result
