password su

Asked by Ulf Ulvik

I'm writing su in the terminal, then I'm asked for superuser/root password, I write my own administration password, but is rejected.
When I installed elementary on my computer, I made both username and userpassword as administrator.

What's wrong?

Using su makes your terminal session switch to the user root. By default, root is disabled on Ubuntu-based systems (and therefore, on elementary OS as well). root's password is not the same as your user account's.

If you want a root shell, you'll need to run sudo su. The command sudo allows you to run commands in an administrative context with YOUR user password. Running su via sudo gives you a root shell while using your own account's privileges.

Just for you information, it's more likely to get answers on elementary OS' StackExchange page (http://elementaryos.stackexchange.com/).
