External monitor does not come back

Asked by Şansal Birbaş

Basically I can not bring back my external monitor as an extended monitor after i disabled it at display settings. I have a secondary vga monitor and I connected it to my laptop through a hdmi-2-vga converter. At first installation, i did nothing because it was working like a charm. Then i noticed everytime i turn on my laptop , that secondary monitor also comes alive , so i wanted it to turn on only when i activate and i tried to disable it at display settings. But now when i want to turn it on back, I can not do it. "Use this display" does not work at all. I removed Nvidia drivers. Installed again. I tried both proprieatry drivers and opensource nouveau drivers. But no success. When i switch to guest session, secondary monitor turns on again and works without problem. I need your ideas about this issue. Thanks in advance.

Try deleting or renaming your monitor configuration file ~/.config/monitors.xml

rm ~/.config/monitors.xml
or
mv ~/.config/monitors.xml ~/.config/monitors.xml.old
