Screen does not auto-dim on Dell Inspiron 15 laptop

Asked by Jason Anderson

I have Freya Beta installed on my Dell Inspiron 15 laptop. While I do have "Dim screen when inactive" checked in System Settings, the screen does not auto-dim. I have looked into this problem. From what I've read I could set the time with the command:

gsettings set org.gnome.settings-daemon.plugins.power idle-dim-time <int>

However this results in an error (No such key 'idle-dim-time'). So is there any other way I can make the backlight auto dim after a certain amount of time has passed?

If anyone's wondering, I'm using the 3.17.0 kernel. This was because the 3.13 kernel couldn't properly recognize my hardware set-up and load the desktop.

Even though I have changed some of the settings on my display, the screen still doesn't dim.
