Depreciated updates available on Update manager for my kernel

Asked by Malo Blanchard

I manually installed (with .deb files) the kernel 3.13 because I'm using an haswell generation of Intel processor.

Now on the Update manager i have always updates available for my kernel, but this is for the 3.8.

For example I have this line:

Linux kernel headers for version 3.8.0 on 64 bit x86 SMP
linux-headers-3.8.0-42-generic (New install) (Size: 1000 kB)

I'm sure there is an easy method to solve the problem, but I'm pretty noob with Linux.

Thank you,

Best regards form a french fan

There is no danger to have several kernels installed on your system. Old installed kernels could get updates such in this case and there should be no problem installing the update.

When in GRUBs bootmenu you can choose to boot any kernel that is installed. To avoid updates, loss of diskspace or just a long list of kernels you could remove a kernel. Be aware that if a problem arises with the kernel currently in use it might be a good idea to have an older one to boot from.
