one CPU around 95%, the three others around 10%

Asked by TidyKoala

I have installed elementary OS 64bits on my laptop Asus K53SC with a Intel® Core™ i3-2330M CPU @ 2.20GHz × 4.
I think there is a problem with the CPU because the fan is quiet loud and one core is very much used in comparison to the other three cores.
Even when no program is running, I hear the fan progressively increasing speed til quiet loud and then it stops and then it goes again.
I have Gnome 3.4.2 and my kernel version is 3.2.0-38-generic.
This usage of the CPU will not make it die prematurely ?
Is there a loss of optimization anywhere?

Try it without graphics drivers and see if it still runs hot. Also try installing linux-generic-lts-quantal and reboot.

I have no proprietary graphic driver installed but I installed linux-generic-lts-quantal and it works! My fan speed is lower and the 4 cores are at a similar level.
Thank you very much!
