Why does my .desktop not appear in the Application Launcher?

Asked by Lucas Caldwell

I created a .desktop for my Minecraft Launcher, and placed it in /usr/share/applications. I put it in the dock to have access but I'd like to know why it will not show up in my App Launcher.

I also noticed there are items in usr/share/applications that do not show up in the Application Launcher.

Is there some sort of modifier i need to add to get it to show up?

Thanks for the help.

This is my .desktop file:

[Desktop Entry]
Version=1.4.7
Type=Application
Name=Minecraft
Comment=Minecraft is a game about breaking and placing blocks
Terminal=false
Categories=Application;Games
Exec=java -jar /home/lucas/Minestuff/Magic.jar
Icon=/home/lucas/.minecraft/favicon.png

Hello Lucas!
Please check if you have made your .desktop file executable.
If you already did it you have to run your launcher.
If everything went fine it should appear in the dock.
Right click the icon in the dock and press "keep in the dock" or any other choice offered, to leave your launcher docked.
Hope it will help you. ;)
