Switch to the Nouveau driver

Asked by Quentin Fait

Is it possible to use the nouveau driver in elementary os ? Do you know how to do that please ?

(My graphic card used to work well on Fedora 17 with this driver so I think it could be a better solution for those who have a Radeon HD 6250 like me.)

As far as I know the nouveau driver is the default driver for all NVidia cards. But you have an ATI card so why would you want to use the nouveau driver?

Yes you're right, I forgot Nouveau was for Nvidia only. Sorry.
So, I wonder... Is there a "libre" solution for Ati ? I don't think because it would be used by default too if there were one, no ?

Thanks.

The libre alternative for Radeon cards is just called "radeon", and is afaik already the default driver used for radeon cards in ubuntu.

I found this link and my card doesn't seem to work with the free driver. I have my answer. Thanks again.
