Why no restart option

Asked by Rom Raptor

I think most people find it more useful than suspend and hibernate. Ubuntu 12.10 added it. Also it doesn't take any unnecessary space.

There is a restart option on the shutdown dialog. Or were you asking why there isn't a restart option on the top level menu?

yeah, that's what i meant. seems like an unnecessary step. the menu is so tiny so one more option wouldn't waste space.

As a user: I was surprised too at first by this. Then I thought to myself "oh well, I'l just hit shutdown and restart manually" when I saw the restart button. (Which is way too far from the others for my taste, I can't catch all three buttons and differentiate them at a glimpse. I'm going to file a bug report on that trivial issue now).

Now if you think of it both shutdown and restart functions are so dangerous they need a confirmation box. Thus instead of having two entries to do an almost similar behaviour (bring confirmation box, turn off computer, [turn it back on for restart]) it seems simpler to pool together the menus and bring the behaviour difference on the last user input.

Now using the function "shutdown" may not be intuitive for a user who wants to restart its computer. Maybe change the label to "shutdown/restart..." instead?
