How to become a part of Elementary

How should I go about becoming a part of the Elementary project?
I am interested in development.

To become part of the elementary project all you gotta do is contribute, quite frankly.

If you know how to program, you can help by fixing bugs or developing applications for it (plugs or something new). If you know how to design, mockups of useful applications or better interfaces are always welcome. If you have good ideas, sharing them is a great way of promoting improvement.

By doing any of these you are helping shape it - heck, I've done very little, given the scope of the project, but I feel like I'm part of it.

That is about as much as I know, maybe someone will be able to answer you in a better fashion, should my reply be incorrect or insufficient :)
