Can I move an encrypted file to another linux dist. and decrypt it there?

Asked by spena

I'm trying to make a copy of my encrypted files from a PC (eg. job) and try to see (decrypt) them in another PC (eg. home), but there is an error trying to read the files.

I use the same passphrase, It adds the same key indeed, but I can't read the files.

Encryption/Decryption mode (both machines), same passphrase
ecryptfs_cipher=aes,ecryptfs_key_bytes=16

Error:
cat: mnt/info.txt Input/Output error

How can I backup my encrypted files, copy them in a USB, and then decrypted them in another PC ?

PC (virtual machine job)
Ubuntu 9.04
ecryptfs-utils-73
2.6.21.7-2.fc8xen

PC (home)
Ubuntu 8.10
ecryptfs-utils-53
2.6.27-7-generic

This should be 100% possible - I agree with boluor's advice - update ecryptfs-utils

Can you help with this problem?
