Can a home on a network drive be decrypted?

Asked by Raimondo Giammanco

I have a working, vintage laptop with ubuntu 10.10 and a home encrypted using the default install encryption.
That user was then removed, asking the system to maintain his data.
I tried to recover those data using a live 11.04 following: http://manpages.ubuntu.com/manpages/natty/en/man1/ecryptfs-recover-private.1.html
Unfortunately the 11.04 live seems to be too heavy for this hardware (while the cd starts properly on an other pc)
I wonder if it is possible to use ecryptfs-recover-private with the hd mounted as a network drive, trough ssh for example;
And, if yes, how?
thanks in advance, Raimondo

Sorry, no, eCryptfs does not work over network filesystems.
