EC2 API Deprecation Status

In the openstack/tripleo-heat-templates project, it is mentioned that EC2 API is not maintained upstream, and is listed as deprecated: https://review.opendev.org/#/c/683319/

"The OpenStack EC2 API project isn't maintained upstream, therefore we deprecate it."

Can you confirm that this project is no longer maintained? This seems like the "upstream" place to ask the question.

I see no mention of non-maintenance and/or deprecation in the code at https://github.com/openstack/ec2-api

It also looks like the github repo has gotten commits in the past few days, so it appears to me that there may be some miscommunication between the parts of the OpenStack project.

Any guidance is appreciated!
