Does not work

Asked by W@LT

I have installed EasyUbuntu as per the instructions (I am using Ubuntu Edgy)

I can open the application but when I select an operation and click OK nothing happens (apart from saying something about the program selected may not be authorised in my country -UK)

I am sure something else should happen at this point

Any ideas how to progress things?

Thanks

EasyUbuntu is not suggested to be used. It has caused problems in the past. What are you trying to install?

With all due respect to BBTJ, I would suggest sticking with EasyUbuntu. It encapsulates the experience of many people, and is better than trying to re-invent the wheel, especially if the user doesn't know how the wheel works.

to W@LT:
To debug, open a terminal and run easyubuntu from there.
     # easyubuntu
EasyUbuntu will run in a separate window, but the terminal will stay open. When you get stuck, look at the terminal again. Copy the last two or three inches of output (select with your mouse, right-click, Copy), and paste into this bug report. That will help us answer you.

Happy Trails,

On the advice of BBTJ I got rid of EasyUbuntu

I will try it again some other time but as a relative beginner bad experiences like this one can be very daunting and un-settling..

Thanks for the advice... maybe when I have a little more confidence I will try again... then again if I had more confidence maybe I would need EasyUbuntu..

I guess that I have 'Solved my Problem by abstaining from pursuing this software as an option!!!

Ubuntu is a formidable piece of software... and I have learnt that it is full of weird quirks which I have yet to master..

Not for the feint hearted I fear...!!

Free,

EasyUbuntu does not have a Feisty version. It should be used only with Edgy or earlier versions of Ubuntu.

Feisty has better techniques for installing multimedia codecs and other software than Edgy did, so the incremental utility of an application like EasyUbuntu is lessened for Feisty.

Take a look at the Ubuntu online documentation for installing so-called "restricted" applications and multimedia codecs. They are called "restricted" because of proprietary restrictions on distribution. You may install and use them for private, non-commercial use.

I don't have the links handy right now, but the Ubuntu Community forums and wiki have abundant information.
