uninstalling Easy Ubunto alpha for a complete noob

Asked by beaulanger

I need a complete procedure that I can understand easily on uninstalling Easy Ubunto. I've Googled it and the answers given are over my head, seeing as I am completely new to Ubunto.
Can you please list the ***exact*** steps in detail? I know nothing about the file system, admin. rights, and terminal commands so don't get too techie.
Thanks.
Beau

For example: On a root shell just copy and paste these commands (if you use sudo, then append the 'sudo' command before any command that tells you need root privileges in order of execute it in the following sequence of commands):

wget -q http://medibuntu.sos-sts.com/repo/medibuntu-key.gpg -O- | sudo apt-key add -

wget http://easyubuntu.freecontrib.org/files/easyubuntu_latest.deb
dpkg -i easyubuntu_latest.deb

/usr/bin/easyubuntu

Then follow the hints at http://easyubuntu.freecontrib.org/overview.html

Thanks but I am new at this so please bear with me.

I assume when you say "root shell" you are talking about "Terminal" right? I typed in...

wget -q http://medibuntu.sos-sts.com/repo/medibuntu-key.gpg -O- | sudo apt-key add -

...but when it asked for my password the cursor just blinked and wouldn't let me enter it.

I looked at Help and it mentioned the terminal command "sudo aptitude" but that wouldn't let me enter my password either.

Anybody? I am inexperienced so I need plain and the exact procedure for deleting EasyUmbntu. Please don't assume I know anything.

In Terminal I have not be able to paste in the commands either so I've spent a ton of time typing in commands that don't work.
Seems odd to me EasyUmbuntu doesn't have a simplified uninstaller. If I had known this I would have never installed it.

You can uninstall it by using the Add/Remove Programs/Synaptic

Thanks for your reply. I appreciate it.

I did uninstall with Synaptic but I thought I found references to EasyUbuntu somewhere in the file system afterwards. Oh well, I can't find them with a search so maybe they are gone. I didn't use Synaptic originally but downloaded it from the main site here. The only version I saw in the download section was the alpha version. I didn't realize there were stable versions.

Sorry about my confusion. If it is so easy to uninstall with Synaptic why all the command line stuff?

As someone considering installing it - May I ask why you are keen to ditch it. Many Thanks.

Lack of support for my hardware including printer, scanner, and graphics card. My late model Canon printer would only print plain text. Yes, I played around with all the drivers and switched to other printer drivers. My scanner didn't work at all and no solution. My ATI card did not do 3d well, if at all. Hardcore gaming was not possible for me. Windows programs I rely on didn't do well when configured to run in Ubuntu. I had a dual boot system but everything I wanted to really do, other than the Internet, I had to boot back into Windows XP.

I spent maybe a month learning Linux and searching for answers.

Weird but I just bought a new computer with MS Vista and my scanner doesn't have a driver for it either. I have to use my roommate's laptop with XP for scanning. The new NVidia card needs a lot of work to get a decent Vista driver.

Installing EasyUbuntu under Feisty - 7.04
I like to use EasyUbuntu but could not get it working under Feisty without doing a bit of fiddling.

If you would like to use EasyUbuntu under Feisty please follow these steps, but remember that the current release of EasyUbuntu was NOT written for Feisty and could cause problems with your system

Download EasyUbuntu version 3.0 from here

Once download run the following command from the terminal or via Alt-F2

Code:

wget -q http://medibuntu.sos-sts.com/repo/medibuntu-key.gpg -O- | sudo apt-key add -

Now double click on easyubuntu_latest.deb and install the package

Once installed enter the following command into the terminal or via Alt-F2

Code:

sudo mv /usr/lib/easyubuntu/packagelist-edgy.xml /usr/lib/easyubuntu/packagelist-feisty.xml
