Error message on trying to use Easy Ubuntu

Asked by Charlie Chick

Hello Everybody,

On trying to use Easy Ubuntu, I get the following error message:

W: GPG error: http://packages.freecontrib.org dapper Release: The following signatures couldn't be verified because the public key is not available: NO_PUBKEY F120156012B83718

It then also says:

Could not apply changes!
Fix broken packages first.

Looking through my newly bought and read Official Ubuntu Book, on page 197 it gives details on how to fix broken packages. I tried it and it doesn't work. Running Easy Ubuntu again produces the same error messages. All this on a fresh install of Ubuntu.

How do I get round these problems?

Thanks in advance!

Charlie

I get the same messages, but in spite of the error messages, EasyUbuntu keeps running and installs many of the packages...

Try running the following command

wget http://packages.freecontrib.org/ubuntu/plf/12B83718.gpg -O- | sudo apt-key add -

Then try again.

Thanks for all the responses. Unfortunately, I have already installed all the codecs manually now, so I'll leave this until the next time I do a fresh install of Ubuntu.

KarlGoetz,

I had the same GPG error as Charlie - I tried your fix and it worked. I just wanted to say thanks and make sure there was a post on record that verified that your solution worked.

Actually, I get this same error, and I have run that command numerous times trying to fix it. I first ran the command after the install, and everything seemed to go find with it. Then, upon using EasyUbuntu to update, I received the same error messages listed in the support request. I tried running the command again, and still no help. Any idea what else might be wrong?
