Totem vs. Mplayer in Firefox

Asked by Johnny Jelinek IV

Using Totem in Firefox is a pain compared to Mplayer. The only feature available is the play/pause button when opening a video file from the browser, yet -- these buttons don't even work correctly, on my machine(s). I would like the ability to rewind and fast forward, as I am used to with mplayer for mozilla; is anyone familiar on getting these features to work w/ Totem in mozilla?

Yes, I confirm it with all of my hands! I do also so, that I don't install this:
   * Videos: Enable viewing videos embedded in webpages

... on the "Web" tab.

MPlayer is the best mediaplayer in the Earth! It's user interface is a little bit outdated and not comfortable to use but huge support of different media formats, including audio, video and subtitles formats - it's definitely the best I ever seen.
Still no DVD menu support but as we know, some development is done toward this. Geexbox (http://geexbox.org/) has already invented DVD menu support and I hope, their work will be available also with MPlayer due to thing, that Geexbox is based on MPlayer.

As long as I remember, I always installed mplayer plugin by hand.

Recently I discovered, that under Kubuntu the Kaffeine plugin has been installed and this one could also not show me videos inside Firefox. I just wanted to see, what plugin will be installed at this time - perhaps it has been changed. And sure - I was disappointed - no mplayer plugin at this time :(

Actually Totem did show the embedded video but I could not see videos at full screen but mplayer plugin were able to show - so, the choice wasn't hard between Totem and MPlayer plugin.

You may watch yourself and test - http://www.tv.ee/
It's fully in Estonian and I don't know, is it also outside Estonia possible to watch or does this webpage do check of IP-addresses to whom it is viewable or not. But I think, you may also find other streams on the web to test those plugins.

I live in the US; www.tv.ee works for me (with mplayer, I'll test Totem later).
