Technicals details between UNR 9.04 and EasyPeasy 1.1/2.0

Asked by Xan

Hi,
I'm just interested in the technical details of Easy Peasy compared to Ubuntu Netbook Remix 9.04. I'm interested if the kernel change (array kernel versus vanilla) and what benefits could be wait in general: SSD performance, drivers that work on EP that does not work on UNR, etc.

What are the _technical_ reasons for installing EP instead of UNR. Please, refering to 1.1. and 2.0.

Thanks a lot,
Xan.

Xan,

I cannot provide a definitive answer at the moment as I am looking for the same answer, but these discussions are helping me start http://forums.geteasypeasy.com/viewtopic.php?f=12&t=1761 and http://forums.geteasypeasy.com/viewtopic.php?f=19&t=1520

Basically Easy Peasy 1.1 is based on 8.10 and includes convenient non-free software, also EP 1.1 cannot be "upgraded" to 9.04.

I've recently tried UNR 9.04 on my eee 901 and easy peasy 1.1.

One significant problem is that UNR 9.04 has problems trying to attach to WPA/TKIP based WiFi networks whereas easy peasey 1.1 connected with no problems. I've tried several configurations to fix UNR9.04 config but with no success yet.

The installer on UNR 9.04 allowed me a guided install to another plug in USB memory stick or SD card but easy peasy 1.1 would only allow a guided install to the second internal SD storage device (/dev/sdb). I didn't try manual.

Request to be included in the next release of easy peasy:
- For the installer to allow guided install to another removable storage device (rather than just /dev/sdb)
- A SIP client
- Open Office 3.1
- Dropbox client or other Cloud Storage application
- Yo storage client app (although I note Asus states only Xandros supported)
- Password Safe
- Truecrypt

Please advise me if there was a more appropriate place to post this.
Many thanks for you work on easy peasy. Happy to support by any testing and will make a donation once I've done somore more testing.
