Can't install: cc1 error

Asked by Jan Niggemann

I can't install duplicity, any ideas as to what the problem might be?

root@host1:/media/smb/duplicity-0.6.17# python setup.py install
running install
running build
running build_py
running build_ext
building 'duplicity._librsync' extension
gcc -pthread -fno-strict-aliasing -DNDEBUG -g -fwrapv -O2 -Wall -Wstrict-prototypes -fPIC -I/usr/include/python2.6 -c duplicity/_librsyncmodule.c -o build/temp.linux-i686-2.6/duplicity/_librsyncmodule.o
cc1: error: duplicity/_librsyncmodule.c: Der Wert ist zu groß für den definierten Datentyp
error: command 'gcc' failed with exit status 1

System is Debian squeeze, librsync-dev is 0.9.7-7, python-dev is 2.6.6-3+squeeze6, python is 2.6.6, GnuPG 1.4.10...
I can provide other information if required.
Thank you in advance.

After googling around for quite some time, I found some hints to point me in the right direction:
Error message in English is "Value too large for defined data type" , error code is EOVERFLOW.

The problem was that I tried to install from a CIFS mount with NTFS.

Solution
Moved the duplicity directory to my ~ and installed from there - worked flawlessly.
