Can I access properties in any way?

Asked by Arturo Bory

Hey, I am LOVING the drawers! It's somthing I've always wanted on Unity! I do have one problem, though. Is there a way to access the file's properites when inside the Drawer? For example, my icon for AndYetItMoves the game doesn't work when clicked, so I tried putting the actual file that executes the game. The only problem is it only opens up gedit to show the code. Usually I'd go into properites and hit check the "Allow executing file as program" but I can't do that from here. Is there a way to do that now, or are you already planning it for an update?

Thanks in advance!

Just adding another question. When I place my minecraft.jar file (which i renamed into Minecraft with no .jar at the end) it works from the full Drawers menu, but it doesn't work when I right click the drawer and hit Minecraft. Is there a fix to this?

Again thanks in advance!

Thanks for the question... you've just uncovered a bug! I happen to have the game AndYetItMoves, so I was able to reproduce your problem. Something goes wrong when copying the Exec line from the .desktop file for the game and it removes the last 's' from the commandline making it 'andyetitmove'. You can simply right-click on the icon, select 'edit Exec' and add the 's' back to the end.

I'll generate a bug report and work on fixing this.

With regards to the minecraft.jar in the quicklist menu, I'll check that out too.

Can you give me more info on the minecraft.jar thing? I was able to get it working from the quicklists, but not from the open drawer. Turns out there's a bug with how the open drawer executes multi-argument commandlines which is required for minecraft.jar. The exec line should have been:

java -cp /home/ian/minecraft.jar net.minecraft.LauncherFrame

The quicklist (right-clicking of drawer launcher) should work just fine, but the open drawer won't run. If it's different in your case, please provide more detail and open up a bug report.

I'm patching the program now to fix the bug I found.

Sorry I forgot to mention something on the minecraft.jar thing. I just tried vanilla minecraft and it works great from both the quicklist and the open drawer with the new update. My problem is with playing from the Technic Launcher. It works in the open drawers, but not in the quicklist. I tried downloading the original laucher and not changing the name at all, which didn't fix the problem. I also tried before and after changing the name in the open drawers, still doesn't work. Maybe there's something specific about Technic that's weird?

Can you post the contents of the .desktop file for the drawer (click the edit button on the open drawer and copy paste it here).

[Desktop Action Minecraft]
Icon=/home/arthur/Pictures/Icons_Wallpapers/minecraft-icon.png
Type=application
Name=Minecraft
OnlyShowIn=Unity;
Exec=xdg-open /home/arthur/Downloads/Humble Indie Bundle/technic-launcher-latest.jar

(I keep the Minecraft file where I put all my backups for the HIB)

Hmm it seems now with the latest update that the Technic Launcher doesn't work from the open drawers now as well. Is there a way to fix that?
