Prefix based installation of PETSc

Asked by Simon James

I am using Dorsal to install the latest version of FeniCs on Scientific Linux 6. Whilst configuring PETSc I get the following error:

ERROR: cannot process file /alt/applic/user-maint/sc594/FEniCS/linux-gnu-cxx-opt/conf/petscvariables
Failure with exit status: 1
Exit message: There was a problem configuring slepc-3.3-p3.

The directory linux-gnu-cxx-opt does not exist. I am attempting a prefix based installation and having read the SLEPC manual I understand that when PETSC is installed into a prefix directory it no longer has a directory component for $PETSC_ARCH. I believe that PETSC_ARCH is taking the value linux-gnu-cxx-opt and this is causing the problem. So my question is, how can I unset PETSC_ARCH in dorsal (I know how to do this when building without dorsal).

Thanks,

SImon
