[Request] Add option for Docky to be "Always on top" of a panel

Asked by Zachary Dunn

I currently use a bottom panel in Gnome for the workspace switcher, window list, and Ubuntu main menu button (thanks to Docky's awesome docklets I dont need a top panel) but if I ever click the panel, Docky will be overlapped and there is no way to bring it back to the front. Heres a link to a screenshot of the issue:

When I was using Do in Docky mode, I could always click anywhere on the dock to bring it to the foreground. Currently I must restart Docky to achieve the same effect. Correcting this issue would be very helpful, but what would be even more helpful is to add an option to docky to make it "Always on Top" of panels (possibly windows as well). The behavior would be the same as other windows which you can currently right click on in the window list and check "Always on Top".

It seems that a system restart fixed my problem of not being able to click to bring docky to the foreground.

This is all up to your window manager. We set a window hint of 'dock' and gnome-panel sets hints of 'panel'. How your manager handles those is out of our hands. Generally speaking they are both given 'always on top' and thus they will fight each other (if there is overlap).

Docky is not intended to be used with a panel that overlaps it. We will not add anything custom to the code to handle such a case.

You can position your dock and your panel on different sides of the monitor, make the panel not 'expand' or auto-hide. Or just don't use a panel (optimal solution!).

I have this problem (restarting Docky fixes it) but I do not have an xfce4-panel at the bottom.
