Last update caused me to lose features & functions

Hi Ubuntu community.

My last update caused me to lose docky apps on the left border, everything is gone! Also features of firefox browser are gone too. I can't move windows, expand or reduce their size, close, or open new ones. All I have are basic desktop apps & folders, I can't find or access apps I'd installed, the icons are gone. I don't know how to set my system back before the last update (automatic back-up is "OFF.") I didn't run the janitor this time so I didn't erase the older files but the update probably did over-write them. I have to shut down and restart just to clear windows I can't otherwise close.

I found the trouble, apparently either in updating or my impatience during shut-downs, DBus was lost. I reinstalled it, full functionality restored. Problem solved.
