Docky Lanucher won't launch

Asked by Dave W.

Hello. I currently use Docky and like it, but I just added a new launcher that doesn't seem to work -- no action takes place after clicking the launcher from Docky. The same launcher works fine when I click it from the desktop or the Ubuntu accessories menu. Any ideas? Here is the launcher command:

java -jar /usr/java/superbcalc.jar

Thanks for your help.
Dave

Apologies, but I don't know how to "post the entire launcher". Do you want me to post a config directory? I didn't see a ".docky" directory in my home directory.

In any case, I think I know what is happening. I typically create a shortcut on the desktop temporarily, drag that shortcut to Docky, and then remove the shortcut from my desktop. I'm guessing Docky doesn't duplicate the shortcut but rather links to the original shortcut resulting in the problem I'm having. Maybe this is working as designed, but it isn't completely intuitive -- panels typically don't work that way.

Let me know if you want more info.

Whatever launcher you are talking about, post the contents of that file here. Launchers have a file suffix of '.desktop'.

And yes, you are not doing it correct. You need to put that launcher *somewhere* and leave it there. When you drag it to Docky, we just keep the file path and re-read that file every time. So if you delete it... what are we reading?

Custom launchers should go into ~/.local/share/applications typically.

Can you help with this problem?
