Html links

Asked by ChromeTiger

I was wondering why, I can drag a html link from my browsers address bar to the desktop and click it and it will open up Firefox to the corresponding site, but if I drag that same desktop link onto a docky panel and click it nothing happens?

using 2.0.11 btw
and Ubuntu 10.10

If you edit the .desktop file it created on your desktop in a text editor and paste the 'EXEC=' line in here I might be able to tell you why.

when i open the link in gedit I get this

[Desktop Entry]
Encoding=UTF-8
Name=Link to deviantART: where ART meets application!
Type=Link
URL=http://www.deviantart.com/
Icon=gnome-fs-bookmark
Name[en_US]=deviantart

now it will open the link from the desktop fine i.e. open firefox and goto the site
but if I drag that same link onto Docky and click it nothing happens

So the answer here is that Docky does not support 'Type=Link' desktop entries. Only 'Type=Application'.

So if I understand it, is not be run directly from the Docky web links? I have the same problem and it would be nice if it worked.

Thanks
