How can I lock docky down to prevent accidental 'add to panel' actions when draggin to i.e. the trash?

Asked by Timo Reimerdes

I am currently trying to use docky actively on my working environment. I added my home, pictures, documents... folders as starters to the dock, and also the trash-applet.

In theory this would enable me to really quickly sort items into these folders from whereever I am. Sweet.

But what it does: it starts the whole "zoom out and make way for adding the dragged thing to the panel" routine. This forces me to pay alot of attention when dropping the item, defeating the smooth experience it could have been.

I have looked up and down the gconf-editor and the docky settings for a 'lock drag-n-drop mode' option. (maintaining the 'pin' option!)

My question is this: does this option exist? If it doesn't: this could be a thing worth implementing. After fixing the 'has no menu' issue by setting the dockyitemcommand to cardapio, this is the ONE thing, that gets really disturbing. ESPECIALLY when moving stuff to the wastebin.

Thanks for your attention.

Timo

Hi, I am sorry, but even after following the instructions the link provided docky is not locked down.

When I try to drag a folder to the trash, it still expands to offer me the "add it to docky" option.

Actually even worse: If I do drag a folder onto the dock, now I can't move it back OUT of the dock. :(

I should mention you need to be running revision 1494, pushed 2010-06-18.

Almost there... almost.

I am running:

2.1.0~bzr1497-0ubuntu1~10.04~dockycore1

checked the keys in the kiosk mode guide - all set as mentioned:
/apps/docky-2/Docky/Items/DockyItem/ShowSettings false
/apps/docky-2/Docky/Items/DockyItem/ShowQuit false
/apps/docky-2/Docky/Items/DockyItem/ShowDockyItem false
/apps/docky-2/Docky/Items/FileApplicationProvider/AllowPinToDock false
/apps/docky-2/Docky/Interface/DockDragTracker/ProvidersAcceptDrops false
/apps/docky-2/Docky/Interface/DockDragTracker/LockDrags true

$ pkill docky

checked keys again

$ docky

*drag item on the dock*

And still, as you can see in the screenshot where I am draging the EVE starter above docky:
It will still behave as if it was running in accepting mode. However dropping the item on the dock will NOT add it to docky. So this seems to be the graphics not knowing how to react if the mentioned keys are set.

What should happen:
* No "add this to panel" popup. (especially not when draging it over the wastebin app!)
* No making space between icons for the 'new launcher' if not accepting drags.
* No changing the mousecurser to "drop to add to panel"

Thanks for your work and taking the time to reply. Maybe it would be best to move this into a bug or feature-report instead of having it here in questions and answers?

"Kiosk Mode behaviour and locked down Docky" or something.

It seems that the procedure asked for exists but it's not working. Should a bug report be filed?

Since it was regarded as sufficiently answered, I guess it is working as intended. I ended up to stop using docky due to this, as it is simply wrong - in my humble opinion. But I do not know the code, or the aims of the developers and it is a nice piece of software for the interface, probably for many people.

If you want this to work as I thought it should, feel free to take it to bug-report/feature-request level. :)
