Disable Docky configuration icon? (Anchor)

Asked by sensory

I know this isn't currently possible but will it ever be? It would be very handy to just be able to right-click the dock itself to access the configuration. It would also look a lot better if you wanted to have a very minimal desktop setup or have all the icons be uniform. Even changing the icon it uses would be a great help.

You already can change the icon. It is installed into the global icons directory and named 'docky.svg' (there are several copies optimized for various sizes).

We will not allow removing the item from the dock.

I am already able to right-click the edge of a dock and access the configuration menu, so the configuration icon seems somewhat unnecessary. What's the reasoning behind not allowing its removal?

I have to say that I agree somewhat with Michael. Unless the your planning new and exciting features for the docky icon, it's presence wastes valuable screen real-estate. Perhaps it could be implemented as a smaller 'handle' attached to the edge of the 'master' dock.

Lee.

Your (subject) question did not receive a solution - merely a reply that no solution will be given. Again, I would like to know the reasoning behind not allowing the removal of the icon, since the menu can be reached anyway through right-clicking on the side edges. I'm not saying there might not be be some very valid explanation to it; this is merely an information request.

I find it very user-unfriendly. I often find myself clicking on the docky button instead of a minimised appplication's icon next to it. I then lose control of the dock as the docky options dialog freezes it and steals the presence.

I agree with the above, it seems unnecessary just to launch preferences. Once configured, how many times would someone use it? A docked app should be something that is often used, it goes against what I use a dock for. I'd like to see an option to disable or give it a useful function like the one in gnome-do had.

You can disable (or change the behavior of) the docky item through GConf. Please see our wiki for GConf related settings http://wiki.go-docky.com/index.php?title=GConf_Settings

Look at: /apps/docky-2/Docky/Items

That didn't work for me either. Also, I'm sure any UI tester that checked out docky would say that it shouldn't be there as it is counter-intuitive.

Chris S.: THANK YOU! It works perfectly to toggle ShowDockyItem. Figures that there was an easy solution after all.
