Possible to have GMail Docklet link to existing instance of Gmail, rather than start a new one?

Love the Gmail docklet, which I'm experimenting using with Google Apps for Your Domain. If I click on the docklet, the behavior is that it opens the existing browser session; however, it opens a new tab for "InBox." I have not experimented yet with Chrome on this, but use FF 3.5.8 as my default browser.

We dont control how it opens. All we do is call 'xdg-open <url>' and let your system handle it however it is configured to do so.

Can you help with this problem?
