Matching Windows 7?

Asked by Bastanteroma

I'm really impressed with Docky, and also with the new Windows 7 taskbar. Docky can already do things that the Windows taskbar doesn't, but I'm curious if there any plans to implement in Docky the things it would need to mimic Windows.

In particular:

-Full width mode, with objects pinned in the corners.

-Network manager docklet.

-Application specific actions. (I read about Zeitgeist being used to make "jumplists" and also about plans by the "Gnome Shell" team to propose extending the iccccm standard for these things, I think)

-Thumbnails of windows associated with an app.

There's probably more that I don't know about, not having used Windows 7. I have read q+a's on your site about some of these things, but none that seemed conclusive.

My final question (and the one that motivates the others) is what your plans are come "Gnome 3"? If Gnome Do and Compiz both don't fit in the new shell, are there any plans to create an alternative environment over the Gnome base?

Thanks for your amazing work!

I heard that work to add gnome do in to the gnome-panel as an applet is in progress. I think they are doing it to include gnome do in the default Gnome desktop. If that is realized then I believe we would have something like Windows 7 interface. But definitely better than Windows 7 taskbar.

Can you help with this problem?
