Do

Why does do call home?

Asked by gc1111

I have noticed (actually my firewall noticed) that do communicates regularly with do.davebsd.com. In these paranoid days of keystroke capturing viruses, I have to ask why? In the meantime, I am leaving my firewall blocking these.

BECAUSE IT'S TOP SECRET!!! WE'RE LOGGING YOUR KEYSTROKES AND REPLACING YOUR KERNEL WITH WIN32.DLL!!!

Actually I have no idea why it's blank; this is what I said:
You have a very old version of Do, upgrade and it will stop. It used to check up for plugin updates.

JUST BECAUSE YOU ARE PARANOID DOESN'T MEAN THAT THEY ARE NOT OUT TO GET YOU!

Thanks, I am using the version from the Fedora 10 repositories which seems to be 0.6. I will upgrade to 0.8 from the "Home" site.

And another note:

I just looked and 0.8 is in the rawhide depository, which means it will be in the Fedora 11 release. I have other reasons for being an early adopter of Fedora 11, so I will probably go that route. Fedora 11 is scheduled for release in a couple of days.

Part of this decision was looking at the writeup on installing from source!
