Do

Ignore the contents of a folder, but still allow launching of the folder itself

Asked by Amr Bekhit

Hello,

I have a folder with a lot of files which I don't want indexing. So, in the Files and Folders plugin configuration, I have added that folder to the 'ignore' list. However, although I don't want to index the files inside the folder, I do want to be able to launch the folder itself by typing its name in Do. But I can't do that because the folder is ignored.

Is there any way to do this, and if not, do you think this is a feature that could be implemented?

Thanks

Hi Alex,

Thanks for your reply. Unfortunately, this does not work. I have already added the folder above with a depth of 3, yet I cannot open my ignored folder.

That's because you're ignoring it... You know what ignore means yes?

Hi Alex,

Sorry I didn't explain the problem very well. Here is an example directory structure:

.
Folder A
|-- Folder B
| |-- Some file
| |-- Some file
|--Folder C
| |-- FileA
| |-- FileB
| |-- FileC
|--File1
|--File2
|--File3

I don't want Gnome-do to index the contents of Folder B. However, I still want to be able to open Folder B by typing its name in Gnome-do. I understand how setting the indexing depth of Folder A to 1 would solve the problem, however this is not ideal in my case, as I *do* want to be able to access the contents of Folder C (FileA, FileB, FileC) and so setting the depth level to 1 would not allow me to do that.

No, I understand the problem exactly. You're just not thinking about it
correctly; this is really simple- add Folder A with a depth of 1, then add
Folder C with whatever depth you want.

Hi Alex,

Thanks for your reply. Sorry for being difficult! But my Folder A has several other folders in it and I often add other folders to Folder A - manually adding each folder to Gnome-do's list would be a bit of a pain, whereas setting it up to ignore the contents of Folder B once would be much easier. From you answers it looks like this is not something I can currently do with Do - do you think this is something worth adding to the plugin?

If it's just the folder that needs to be opened, I just add it to the Nautilus bookmarks, since Do also indexes that :)
