Will 0.8.1 be put into http://ppa.launchpad.net/do-core/ppa/ubuntu hardy main repository?

Asked by massimo

I'm a still happy Ubuntu Hardy user and I'd like to play with newer release of Gnome DO ( main interest on docky features, sure ! ) but unfortunately from ppa hardy repository I didn't found neither after 0.6.1 release !

Please could you tell me if could be any chance to run Gnome-Do 0.8.x in my setup ? Could be "tarball" way the right and/or only way ?

Thanks

Hi Alex,
I'm really newbie for this "forum" so could I'm in wrong but I didn't see any text your answer !?

There was no text in the answer. Or if there was it was blank to us.

This question will be something for the Gnome Do development team. Alex should be able to answer it. It all depends on a number of factors, mainly if the package(s) you are referring to make it into the repositories in time and if they are deemed stable.

Let's wait on Alex, or another Gnome Do developer, to respond. They'll have the answer!

I don't know why my text showed up blank, but this is what I said:

Hardy is unsupported, it's doable, but you need tons of backported packages.
We say upgrade to at least intrepid, or enjoy one of our fine older releases
such as 0.6.1

Thanks for your replay.
I can understand that Hardy could be not supported any more ( even if not so "ancients" I'd like to think ;-) ) anyway could you provide some info more about these "tons" of backported packages ( e.g. brief list ) maybe lots of these will be already in my setup ?

I enjoyed playing with last Hardy fine older release, really nice app, but I really like to play with new docky feature.

Another newbie question : of course the plain tarball/src way will depend from same lots of newer packages ( backported ? ), isn't it ?

Thanks to Google and some "unofficial" repository ( mono hardy backport ) now I'm playing with 0.8.1 & docky !

Really nice app. ! Thanks again.

Hi Massimo! I had the same question... how did you install 0.8.1 on hardy?

Following Mono "way" ( google could be your friend ) I found a repository (pay attention : unofficial one ) with all needed .deb ( new rel. of mono and gnome-do too ).
Sorry I don't know if I could publish this link here.

Definitely not, we don't support hardy, it's too old. You can get it to
build from source but you need to install a lot of unofficial packages, try
searching google you can probably find a blog post detailing the steps
required.

Ah, I get these by email. didnt see that. the Mono is hardy was almost out
of date when it was released. We move fast, no time to support old software.
