Do

Docky as... Task list?

Asked by Peterson Silva

This is not exactly an answer, it's more likely a feature request - and I don't know whether I should file a bug or a blueprint since it's a feature request, so I felt like asking a question.

I had this somwhat crazy idea but I liked it so much and I don't think it's a terrible idea, after all. What about creating a gnome-applet for do to replace the task list? It would work like docky do now - but with the differences that the icons would appear at the left, replacing quick launch icons - e.g the "firefox, evolution and help" default in ubuntu - and the task management could be done either using icons like docky (something like xfce's iconbox) or using the task list method. When pressing the shortcut or summoning Do with a permanent icon - just like docky - 'current apps running' list would disappear and then docky's summon interface would appear there.

I know this doesn't seem much of a thing but before I used to use Deskbar-applet and Avant. I replaced these and the run dialog assigning alt+f2 to docky, and if it wasn't for this bug (https://bugs.launchpad.net/do/+bug/321865), I'd have replaced my task list as well.

I mean, with that "intelligent task list" I'd even replace the menu!! It's something I honestly have never seen before in any O.S. out there.

I mean, it's a gnome-applet and I'm not a dev so I have no idea about how difficult would it be to make it - if for this reason or for the obvious nonsense of it you want to say "this will never happen", feel free heahaehAEhaEeH. Just something I though was nice to share =)

You want us to make an ugly Docky clone so you can put it in your GNOME panel? Ich don't think so.

No, it wouldn't actually be an ugly docky clone, but I surely understand the no =)
